The vocabulary repairs the stroke. | TheRealMichaelMoore
Oakland, California
I’ve been trying my hand at developing black and white film using Diafine.  I’ve been accumulating equipment over the last two months (completed w/ a changing bag for my birthday from Alyssa).
The first roll I developed (almost entirely sofa frees) didn’t spool correctly (in the camera) and so it had some light leaks on the tops and bottoms.  The second roll I developed (out and about Oakland), I failed to load the reel correctly and the negatives were touching in some places, so those spots didn’t get developed.
I adapted my procedure from Tim Layton.  Thanks, Tim!
No pre-wash/soak.
4 min of A, with 2 slow inversions.
4 min of B, with 2 slow inversions.
5x rinse with tap water
5 min of Ilford Rapid Fixer, continuous inversions
10 min tap water rinse with lid off
30s soak in Photo-Flo.
Hang to dry and dab any noticeable water.
After all that, I went to scan and my scanner was broken…really broken, unlike those other two times it was broken.  So, I have a fancy new Canon 8800 scanner now.  That old scanner was a great Craigslist deal, but I blame Epson’s build quality for all the problems.
Finally, both rolls were shot on the Diana F+, which seems to project a little high.  Part of the image is obscured by the negative holder.  So, I made a custom holder that can scan the full frame (but doesn’t do anything to keep the film flat, yet).  I haven’t tried just laying the negative on the flat bed yet, but I should try that, Newton rings be damned.

It took some exploring, but I found a nice reflection of Half Dome in Mirror Lake.

The inner player abides across a brand. | TheRealMichaelMoore
Earlier this week, I skipped out of work for a day and went on a 32-hour jaunt out to Yosemite. A long and snowy winter has led to an exceptionally strong melt this year and all of the waterfalls and rivers were flowing furiously. Took this classic shot from Valley View as we were leaving the park.
